このたびSAI では、現代芸術家SAIAKUNANA（さいあくなな）による過去最大規模個展「右手に生き様」を2023年5月13 日（土）から6月4日（日）まで開催いたします。
 
ペインティング、音楽、ライブパフォーマンス、そしてそれらを呑み込む圧倒的な混沌空間で自身の世界を構築するSAIAKUNANA。10代よりアーティストの道を志し、制作活動をスタートした彼女は、当初より実験的な展示方法と自分自身の内面的世界観を反映させた数々の作品を発表してきました。2018年には第21回岡本太郎現代芸術賞にて大賞である岡本太郎賞を受賞。その後は、何処にも属さないインディペンデントなスタイルを貫きながら、ニューヨーク、 ロンドン、香港と活動の拠点を世界に広げていきます。 2020-2022 年にかけては、ロンドンにSAIAKUNANA GALLERYをゼロから自身で開設、ロックとアートを掛け合わせた無二の世界観を作り上げました。
 
本展のタイトル「右手に生き様」は、何年も前から書き溜めている制作ノートに書かれていた言葉です。現代芸術家として、SAIAKUNANAを一番表現しているこの言葉が示すように、本展は大きな転機になったというロンドンでの活動を経てから初、まるでベストアルバムのようにこれまでのすべてを出し切る最大規模のものとなります。
10 代の頃から毎日、毎晩、休まず描き続けた作品、それらの作品を貼り付け積層し、めちゃくちゃに塗り重ね生まれる新たな作品は、彼女自身の生き様を叫ぶように、情熱と躍動感、そして圧倒的なエネルギーが現在進行形で増幅し続けているようです。一つの作品にみられる情報量からは、彼女の人生の一端が伺え、何かに立ち向かい続ける姿が映し出されます。
 
本展ではSAIの4つの空間をそれぞれピンク色に染め上げます。ロンドン滞在中に制作をはじめたお花シリーズの日本初公開をはじめ、「SAIAKUNANA GALLERY LONDON」を継承するインスタレーション空間「SAIAKUNANA GALLERY TOKYO」。会期中リアルタイムで作品を描き上げるライブペイント空間などで構成されます。また、会期中にはトークショー、ドキュメンタリー映像上映会、生ライブなども開催します。
その他、会場ではレコードやポスター、VITALMATERIALとのコラボ商品をはじめ、本展に向けて作られた様々なグッツの販売も行います。
 
情熱、ROCK、命懸け、まさに人生をかけたライブともいえる本展、SAIAKUNANAが作り上げるこれまでに見たことのない空間に是非足をお運びください。

SAI is pleased to announce SAIAKUNANA “ART OF MY LIFE”, the largest solo exhibition by the contemporary artist to date, taking place from Saturday 13th May to Sunday 4th June 2023.
Through painting, rock music, live performance and installation artworks that engulf the entire space in their overwhelming chaos, SAIAKUNANA is an artist who has created an immersive world in her own unique vision. With aspirations to become an artist, she began her creative endeavours in her teenage years, and has since continued to create works that reflect her inner perspective, all presented in her singular style and strikingly experimental exhibitions. In 2018, she was awarded the grand prize at the 21st Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art, and has since exhibited around the world in cities such as New York, London and Hong Kong, all whilst maintaining her independent approach.
 
Eschewing the traditional path of most artists, she opened the SAIAKUNANA GALLERY in London from 2020 to 2022, starting the gallery from scratch and bringing her unique universe filled with rock music and art to reality.
This exhibition will be SAIAKUNANA’s first solo exhibition in Japan since returning from London, and will be a culmination of the the artist’s life experiences to date. Each of SAI’s four exhibition spaces will be transformed into a world of pink, with the central installation space becoming “SAIAKUNANAGALLERY TOKYO”. Inheriting its name from her eponymous “SAIAKUNANAGALLERYLONDON”, the installation will be a constantly evolving live painting space where the artist will be working over the course of the exhibition. In addition, there will be a programme of talk shows, documentary film-screenings and live performances taking place within the gallery. There will also be a number of limited-edition items produced in collaboration with Vital Material, including original T-shirts and posters, available exclusively at the exhibition.
The exhibition will present a vast body of work that conveys all of the artist’s passionate fire, rock and roll spirit, and life-or-death attitude, and we hope that you will take the time to visit the extraordinary world of SAIAKUNANA and experience what is sure to be a one-of-a-kind environment live and in-person.
